Ode to the Penguins…

I was working out yesterday, when I watched every sports show that showed the final game for the Stanley Cup. It would be game 7 at the coveted Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. It would be a home game, with home field advantage…Every broadcaster in every show said that the Red Wings would play hard and would win this game in their home arena! It would be a shoe-in!
Unfortunately, no one even cared to ask the Penguins! As if, Detroit would be playing themselves and the Penguins would probably just lay down, knowing they hadn’t played well against Detroit in Detroit! I just thought it was getting boring listening to everyone simply declare Detroit the winner, even before the game was played!
I’m not a hockey fan! I don’t particularly like the sport! Nothing against the sport, but I’m totally clumsy on the ice…anything to do with ice or snow and I am a bit uncomfortable! I have a few friends who are totally hockey fanatics and Red Wing fans! So this is not to diss the Red Wings, simply to give credit where credit is due! Both teams played hard, but as in any sport, only one can come away the winner! Even in little league baseball, someone has to lose and one team scores more points than the other.
Give it up to the Penguins! They played in their opponent’s home arena, with a crowd against them, and every critic believing that they would lose! Give it up to the Penguins! They didn’t listen to the raucous crowd, and their critics! They listened to the voice inside themselves that said, “You can do this! You can win!” Give it up to the Penguins! They silenced their doubters! They went out and did it! 2-1 was the final score!
Hey, let’s give it up to the Penguins!
They showed us that inspite of difficult circumstances, you just silence the doubters and listen to the voice within!
Hey, let’s give it up to the Penguins!
They showed all of us that you can believe in yourself and go out and do it!
Give it up to the Penguins! You are champions!
And so are you!
