A Road Less Traveled by…

travel_00011

The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Frost’s poem is a metaphor for my first attempt of posting a blog! It reflects my attitude and trepidation for entering into cyberspace.  Nevertheless, here’s my offering!

There is in each of us, a desire to be adventurous–that is to go on a journey!  Have you felt that tugging lately?  Have you felt stuck?  Do you have a desire to do something different? Do you want to travel a different road…to try something new!  Oh, I wished I would have done that!   A cry of regret!  Fundamentally, it is a deafening to, a turning off, a willingness to not respond to the voice of the spirit-that is the cry of the heart.  To begin a new adventure, it must start as a journey of the heart; inspired by the Spirit in each of us.

At the crossroads lies a choice given to each of us as a blessing of grace!  Like Frost, we are shadowed by shame and regret, believing that our choice might be the wrong one taken.  Even worst, the desire to travel both roads overwhelms us!  We take the road that is “fair and perhaps the better claim.” Maybe, “it was grassy and wanted wear!” As we do, we rationalize that as we pass there, “had worn them really about the same.”

For at the crossroads is a brand new day-a new tomorrow!  A blessing of grace!  A choice given again to see “two woods diverged in a yellow wood…and both that morning equally lay in leaves no step had trodden black…” How unfortunate we are to view each day with regret and shame for choices made on another day!  For we have learned, grown, and matured for the travel of yesterday.  We know the “way leads on to way.” There is a choice, a blessing of grace that awaits us!

I encourage you today to be an adventurer-take a new journey!   Maybe it’s not about taking the road less traveled, but the idea of telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence! I find that word “sigh” in Frost’s poem to be quite illuminating! Can that sigh reflect unbridled joy, warmth, passion, and commitment?  For when we share our story, can we do it without shame and regret?

I offer this anecdote:  begin each day as a new journey-a journey of the heart; inspired by the Spirit in each of us!  A journey filled with “sigh.”  Make it an adventure-a blessing of grace.  That will make all the difference!

    Hi Pastor Fel, That poem by Frost is my most favorite–it always leads me back to the days when I was studying to be an environmental biologist. And, look where the Lord has me instead…with no regrets, of course. I can say that He knows our hearts and my heart has always been with the little children who suffer pain. I see them each day and they are so very courageous, always strengthening my faith and my commitment to doing my part to find more answers to cancer treatment for kids. I’m glad for the blog and look forward to more news.

    Hiya Fel! Nice blog. Nice HDR picture (before it goes to your head I’m talking about the road picture). Very serene, spiritual colors. Makes me want to live there. j/k.
    Seriously, it’s good to be able to read some of what your thinking in a blog.

    Give my love to Dianna and the boys.

    The first BLOG site I have ever entered. Love the web page. Google place it on my home page so it is one of the first things I can read. I must say God wakes me up every Sunday morning to get to your class. I have learned so much these past couple of years about my spiritual self and things I needed to change within. Makes me a better person. Still have a ways to go. So I must leave a big whopping THANK GOD FOR YOU.
    Love to the Family
